Fed: Compromise deal on woolgrower rep committee
CANBERRA, Dec 11 AAP - Australian wool leaders have devised a compromise board and
membership role for their new national representative organisation.
The Wool Industry Representation Committee (WIRC) said today growers will have an option
of direct membership or membership through state agriculture organisations to the new
body.
WIRC chairman Dale Park said grower members will elect six of the organisation's 12-member
board, while another six will be elected by the state organisations.
"The WIRC is preparing a memorandum of understanding outlining the aims, core functions,
membership and corporate structure of the organisation," he said in a statement.
"The MOU will also address transition arrangements for establishing the organisation."
In a poll taken mid-year, growers backed a direct membership organisation to represent
their interests.
But the state organisations, which would lose control and members because of the move,
fought the proposal.
