A student's STAR turn is a lifesaver.(Capital Region)

BERLIN - Last year, Marcia Vincent's 5-year-old cousin needed a kidney transplant. Marcia, 14, couldn't be a donor, so she wanted to do all she could to promote organ donation - not just for her cousin but for everyone else who may need a lifesaving donation.

Marcia is part of Berlin's Family Career and Community Leaders of America. Each year, students do a STAR - or Students Taking Action for Recognition - event that helps a cause of their choice. Marcia set a goal of recruiting 10 people for June. She is now up to 14, and has set a new goal of 20 by …
