Fed: Helen Coonan to chair Sydney Airport Community Forum

CANBERRA, April 24 AAP - The federal government today appointed Liberal senator Helen
Coonan to chair the Sydney Airport Community Forum (SACF).

Transport Minister John Anderson said the SACF advised the government on aircraft noise
and related environmental issues at Sydney Airport.

It consists of federal and state MPs and local government and community representatives.

Senator Coonan, a long-time Sydney resident and former barrister, was elected to the
senate in 1996 and appointed deputy government whip in 1998.

"Senator Coonan will be an excellent chair and a worthy successor to Dr Brendan Nelson
who resigned from the position when he was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to the
Minister for Defence," Mr Anderson said in a statement.

The next SACF meeting will be held in May.
