NSW: Protesters climb aboard HMAS Sydney
Twelve anti-war demonstrators have been arrested after a daring protest that haltedan Australian warship leaving Sydney Harbour for the Persian Gulf.
Two Greenpeace protesters were arrested this morning after police removed them fromthe guided missile frigate, HMAS Sydney.
TV footage showed one protester tying himself to the hull, and another secured herselfto the stern and was later removed with boltcutters.
The protester at the bow unfurled a No War banner before Water Police were able to remove him.
New South Wales police say 10 other protesters were arrested after being taken fromvarious vessels on the harbour, and one police officer may have suffered a broken rib.
The protest delayed the Sydney's departure by more than an hour, and earned criticismfrom Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD.
According to Greenpeace, both protesters who attached themselves to the ship -- 30-year-oldLismore man MIKEY ROSATO and 25-year-old SARAH ROBERTS -- are affiliated with the group.
Mr HOWARD's told Sydney radio 2UE the protesters have no regard for the feelings ofthe sailors or the families on board the Sydney.
